MET Eireann has pinpointed when mercury is set to drop and frosty nights will return – after an “exceptional” temperature was recorded yesterday.

Meteorologist Michelle Dillon revealed that the highest air temperature recorded yesterday was 19.1C in Phoenix Park, Dublin and Finner Camp in Co Donegal.

Despite these unusually high temperatures – the figure didn’t beat the high of 20.1C recorded in Co Kerry in November, 2015.

The Met Eireann forecaster also revealed that mercury is set to cool from Sunday and early next week.

Dillon said: “Yesterday we had temperatures of 19.1C in Donegal and Dublin, which is quite exceptional for November.

“While it won’t be quite as mild in the coming days, it will still be very mild for the time of year for a while, while being mostly cloudy.

“Overall, a lot of dry weather too but with a little light rain, drizzle, mist and fog.

“From Sunday and from the early days of next week it will be mainly dry and it’ll turn cooler and brighter with some sunshine.”

The forecaster revealed today will be mostly cloudy and breezy with some drizzle in the west and southwest.

Tonight will see drizzle and mist continue as temperatures drop to lows of 10C.

She continued: “Today though, mostly cloudy and rather breezy and dry apart from a little drizzle, mainly in the south and west.

“There’ll be some hill and coastal mist and fog too, mainly in southern parts.

“Highest temperatures 12C to 16C in moderate to fresh southeast winds, strong at times in western coastal parts.

RAIN EN ROUTE

“Tonight will continue cloudy with a little drizzle and mist and with a little rain in the southwest and west.

“Lowest temperatures of 10C to 13C in mostly moderate southeast winds, those winds fresher in western and some southern coastal parts.”

Friday will start the weekend off with cloud, drizzle and mist – with some rain in the south and southwest.

Saturday will see light rain and drizzle continue with highs of 12C to 16C on the cards.

The forecaster explained: “Tomorrow Friday will once again be cloudy with a little drizzle and mist, mainly in the south and with a little rain in the southwest and west – with the chance of the odd moderate bursts in the southwest.

“Highest temperatures 12C to 15C in moderate to fresh southeast winds.

“It will continue cloudy on Saturday with a little light rain and drizzle, along with some mist and fog, highest temperatures 12C to 16C in light to moderate southeast winds.”

TEMPS CHANGE

Rain is expected to clear on Sunday morning leaving the rest of the day dry but temperatures will be cooler with highs of just 13C or 14C during the day.

She said: “Some rain will spread from the west then on Saturday night, clearing from the east early on Sunday morning and the rest of the day will be dry.”

“Now, once it clears it will turn fresh or cooler and clearer with some sunshine, highest temperatures of 11C to 13C or 14C.”

Next week, frost and fog are expected to return with temperatures closer to the seasonal norm, according to Met Eireann.

Dillin said: “The early days of next week will continue mainly dry with some sunshine and light winds, with a chance of a little rain at times.

“Highs more like the seasonal norm with temperatures of 10C to 13C degrees.

“Nights will be colder with a touch of frost and fog.”

She added: “To recap, today will be rather breezy, mostly cloudy and mainly dry with just a little drizzle and mist, mainly in the south and west.”
